Big news from the energy sector! Adani Power Limited (ADANIPOWER) has just announced a major win, securing a Letter of Award (LoA) from MP Power Management Company Limited (MPPMCL) for a brand-new 800 MW ultra-supercritical thermal power project. This isn’t just any project; it’s a significant step in India’s power landscape.
This ambitious project, set to be developed in the Anuppur District of Madhya Pradesh, comes with an estimated investment of a whopping ₹10,500 crore. Adani Power will undertake this venture on a Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model, ensuring a comprehensive approach from start to finish. The power generated will be supplied at a competitive tariff of Rs 5.838 per unit, a rate secured through a highly competitive bidding process.
What does this mean for Madhya Pradesh? Well, the state’s industrialization and urbanization are driving up electricity demand, and this 800 MW plant is poised to help meet those growing needs. The project is expected to be commissioned within 54 months from the appointed date, bringing reliable power to households and businesses. Fuel for the plant will come from an allocated coal linkage under the Government of India’s SHAKTI Policy.
Mr. SB Khyalia, Chief Executive Officer of Adani Power, highlighted the strategic importance, stating that the Anuppur plant will play a pivotal role in ensuring reliable, affordable, and competitively priced power, strengthening India’s and Madhya Pradesh’s energy security. This project also promises significant employment generation, with an estimated 6,000-7,000 jobs during construction and around 1,000 once operational.
This LoA marks a remarkable period of growth for Adani Power, as it’s the fourth major power supply order the company has received in the last 12 months! This includes a composite 6,600 MW order from Maharashtra in September 2024, a 1,600 MW LoA from Uttar Pradesh in May 2025, and another 2,400 MW LoA from Bihar in August 2025. Talk about a power-packed expansion!
Adani Power, already India’s largest private thermal power producer with an installed capacity of 18,110 MW, continues to expand its footprint, leveraging technology and innovation to contribute to India’s vision of becoming a power-surplus nation. Keep an eye on this space as Adani Power continues to energize the nation! 💡
