Tata Power Subsidiary Secures Major Battery Storage Project in Kerala 🔋

Big news from the energy sector! Tata Power, a name synonymous with India’s power landscape, has just announced a significant win for its renewable energy arm.

Their subsidiary, Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), has been selected by NHPC Limited to develop a crucial Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Kerala. So, what’s the big deal? This isn’t just any contract; it’s a step forward in how India manages its green energy.

TPREL will be setting up a 30MW/120MWhr BESS asset in Mulleria, District Kasaragod, Kerala. Think of it as a giant battery pack designed to store excess energy generated from renewable sources like solar or wind, and then release it when needed. This helps the Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL) optimize their energy use, making the grid more stable and efficient.

The project, valued at approximately ₹110 crore (that’s about $13 million!), involves TPREL establishing the system and then making it available for KSEBL’s use for a period of 12 years. The execution phase for this ambitious project is set for 15 months from the signing of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), followed by the 12-year operational period.
